Christian Women's Job Corps

Autumn Greetings from the Chairman of The Board

In spite of the temperature outside, our calendar tells us that Autumn is here, and that means the start of a new semester of classes for Christian Women’s Job Corps of Tyler.  Now in our 18th year of ministry, we can report that we are still going strong helping women to gain job skills and life skills in order to assist them in taking care of themselves and their families.  We continue to enjoy God’s favor and are excited to have another great group of women who have made a decision to step out of their comfort zone and see what God and CWJC have to offer them.  And we have so many things to share!

With the new season comes new and exciting changes for Christian Women’s Job Corps of Tyler as well!  We continue to move forward as God leads and opportunities arise.  As you read this letter our fall classes are in full swing at our new location, 310 West Ferguson St.  That’s right! We have a new building and have spent most of the summer busily getting it ready for our new students! Our new location, a mere block from our old location on West Locust St. provides us with nearly three times the space that we had before! We’ve gone from a little over 2000 sq. ft. to nearly 6000 sq. ft., and the best part is that we get to stay in the same neighborhood with many of our long-time ministry partners and friends!  Thank you to First Baptist Church in downtown Tyler for being the best landlords and hosts a ministry could ever hope for.  Your generosity and partnership mean so much to CWJC and so many others with whom you share your hospitality!   We have had a busy summer with staff, volunteers, donors and contractors busily preparing our new building for this Fall 2017 class and the hard work and dedication of so many has really paid off.  We invite you to come by and take a tour.  We are so proud of our new place!

Along with our new building, we have also expanded our course work from 10 weeks to 12 weeks and completely revamped and updated our computer training and resume writing curricula.  We’ve gained new friends, volunteers and ministry partners as well as welcoming back some old and faithful friends.  We still have a few volunteer openings for anyone who is interested in getting involved, and we are already planning for our Fall 2017 graduation as well as taking applications and preparing for our Spring 2018 classes.

And finally, after getting our fall classes underway, our own CWJC- Tyler, Site Coordinator, Vickie Osborn, has made a move from Tyler to our sister site, CWJC-Lindale, to partner with Becky Foote and her wonderful team to our north. We anxiously anticipate great things from these two, as Becky and Vickie work their “CWJC magic” with all the ladies in Lindale and the surrounding areas.  Please join us by lifting them in prayer every step of the way.

What a joy and a blessing it is to get to do what I get to do, along side the people with whom I get to do it!  Serving “To-GET-Her” in His Grace,

Gay V. Brookshire,

Board Chair, Christian Women’s Job Corps of Tyler, Inc.
